STAR: Students Terminating Abusive Relationships

STAR is a peer leadership program offered to high school and college students in Westchester County. Members attend monthly meetings to learn more about dating abuse and how to plan and implement awareness activities in their schools and in their communities.

Mission, Membership, and Meetings

Mission

The mission of star is to pledge to speak out against interpersonal and societal violence and to promote healthy relationships based on equality, respect and trust.

Membership

If you join you will:

  • Attend a monthly meeting (food and snacks are provided)
  • Learn more about dating abuse
  • Serve as a mentor to your peers and help to educate them about abuse
  • Promote respect, equality and trust in dating relationships
  • Serve as the primary contact in your school to provide your peers with information about where they can go to get help
  • Assist in coordinating awareness events in your school and in your community
  • Participate in the annual NWS teen symposium

Meetings

STAR meetings are organized and facilitated by Hope's Door. Students meet once a month to address concerns about dating abuse in their community and in their school and, most importantly, focus on creating solutions to teen dating abuse.

Ted is recognized both nationally and internationally for his expertise in organizing and educating men in the effort to end violence against women.
